Presenting the future? 04/28/2009
Microsoft’s Powerpoint is the ubiquitous product in the world of presentations. They may have jazzed it up a bit with a few extra templates and features over the years but it’s generally remained unchanged since its inception. Well if it ain’t broke... For me, like many software products out there, I’ve always felt it lacked the flexibility to adapt to an individuals personal approach. Instead we all conformed to a presentation style dictated to us by the software – a nice orderly regurgitation of slides, bullet points and the odd annotated diagram or graph as a point of interest. I’m sure you’ve all uttered or heard the words - “Another boring Powerpoint presentation.” Generally we rely on the personality of the individual to add entertainment, excitement, intrigue.......interest? All very well you might say but with the technology that is now available I think it was high time that the status quo was challenged and I’ve seen a product that may be showing us the way. A small team of developers and designers in Budapest, Hungary of all places has just launched prezi.com. Prezi allows you to create a map of your ideas, images, videos, etc. and quickly show overviews, zoom in to details, move in or out of sequence. My description doesn’t do it justice so check it out for yourself and impress your boss or colleagues next time they ask you to present. A good example of a prezi presentation is here.
